Sunday 27th September 12.30pm
Confronting some of the defining issues of our time, the compelling documentaries in Change reflect on justice, identity, migration, conservation, ageing, and grief. Across vastly different lives and landscapes, these films reveal the personal stories behind global topics, inviting us to look closer, question what we accept, and consider what it takes to make a difference.
Official Selection 2026
SOIXANTE-SEPT MILLISECONDES
Dir: fleuryfontaine
A forensic reconstruction follows the trajectory of a bullet whose trail has been captured on surveillance camera footage. Blending the early cinema technique of chronophotography with CGI, the film questions the legitimacy of policing in France and warns of its excesses.
FLORENCE DELIGHT
Dir: Lucca Messer
In the heart of Istanbul, where centuries of tradition press against the skin, Florence refuses to disappear into the night. Against a rising tide of exclusion, Florence builds a sanctuary of faces like hers; those deemed too loud, too colourful, too much. Together, they form a chorus of mutual care.
LA RETARGUARDIA (THE ONES WHO STAY)
Dir: Olivier Côté & Jean-François Bouchard
Four young Cuban artists choose to stay in Cuba during what has now become the island's largest migration crisis. An intimate portrait of those who stay behind, lose loved ones, and shape the identity of a generation at risk of fading away.
TRAPPED
Dir: Mads Engel & Joe Purtell
Native only to North Carolina, the endangered Venus flytrap has become the centre of an unexpected conflict. After harvesting the plant was made a felony, a local Black community who had depended on the plant for generations found themselves designated criminals overnight. Now, many face a difficult choice.
NO MATTER THE WEATHER
Dir: Florence Lafond
Renée, 83, broke her ankle. Fortunately, she can rely on her granddaughter Florence, who steps in as her caregiver. While this ordeal brings them closer than ever, it inevitably confronts them with the reality of Renée's decline.
CAMP WIDOW
Dir: Laura Green & Anna Moot-Levin
An immersion into a weekend gathering of “widows” - people of all ages, genders, and orientations - this glimpse of a grieving community is by turns devastating and unexpectedly funny.
